I know there has always been a different set of rules for armed forces personnel and the rest of the nation, but I believe that this officer is entirely within his right to say what he sees as a less than adequate backing of troops in Afghanistan. He is there, President Obama is not. This nation has invested nine years in this "war" and it seems disrespectful to allow our countrymen to have given their lives and now pull out without victory. That is what happened in Viet Nam and look where that got this nation with respect to the rest of the world. I know it has always been forbidden in this country for our troops to speak against the Commander in Chief, but with all due respect it used to be the same with any American citizen. We weren't forbidden because of our "freedom of speech" rights, but it was understood in my generation and prior generations to hold our President in high regard, no matter what kind of erroneous decision he made. The attitude in this country has changed. Everyone speaks their mind, according to their rights under our constitution, and I believe that officers in our armed forces, who are fighting as commanded by our Commander in Chief, has more right than any ordinary citizen, who is protected by those same armed forces, to speak their mind, especially when they are on the front lines doing the protecting. This nation has taken our troops for granted long enough. They have more right to voice their beliefs than anyone in this country. We have begun giving more rights to illegal aliens in this country than we do to those who protect it. If President Obama accepts this resignation he is going against everything this country now stands for. I am a born citizen of this country. My male ancestors have fought on native and foreign soil to protect this country and our rights as citizens of America. Can we now deny those same rights to those who now fight for them"
